October Breast Cancer Awareness - New Strides In the Fight With Stem Cells

So many men and women alike will be "Thinking Pink" this month as we promote and support Breast Cancer Awareness month. I can tell you that my thoughts and prayers weigh heavily for my dear friend Lisa who was diagnosed a few years back. She is a fighter, she is still fighting right now and her cancer is in remission. My neighbor, she is a survivor! My aunt, my sister, and my bloggy friend Amanda each had close calls with fibrous tissue, but still scary nonetheless.

In the continuing fight against breast cancer researchers are looking into new methods, new formulas (if you will) to harvest stem cells without the controversy of an embryo. Cryo-Cell International is an organization that is doing just these actions! They have partnered with the National Institutes of Health to explore the potential option and utilization of menstrual stem cells to treat breast cancer.

Before anyone starts feeling queasy, the idea is genius. A woman generates a perfectly hospitable environment for a growing life in utero, why not harvest those rich cells for use? The option to save your life, once a month. Research has found that cord blood from a newborn is potently rich in stem cells for the treatment of diseases and illnesses, why not the idea of another option for disease and illness treatments provided from a woman which is considered a bodily waste. What researchers are saying at C'Elle:

These menstrual stem cells are unique because they have many properties and characteristics similar to both bone marrow and embryonic stem cells; they multiply rapidly and can differentiate into many other types of stem cells such as neural, cardiac, bone, fat, cartilage and possibly others; demonstrating great promise for future use in clinical regenerative medical therapies. (Cryo-Cell International Inc, 2009)

C'Elle is a division of Cryo-Cell that currently is handling, processing, storing, and researching the possibilities of menstrual stem cells in the treatment of breast cancer through the . What else is great?

For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Cryo-Cell is offering contributions through Cyro-Cell Breast Cancer Donation to the Susan B. Komen Foundation. $50 for each purchase of the “Protect Baby, Protect Mom” service and $25 for each purchase of the “C’Elle Menstrual Stem Cell” service by contributing through C'Elle Breast Cancer Donation . I encourage you to find out more about Cryo-Cell and these new strides in the fight against breast cancer.
